Things to Do in Skopje

Skopje in Winter: Weather, Holidays & Things to Do (Dec–Feb)

Skopje in winter (December to February) is cold, festive and refreshingly free of crowds. Christmas lights fill Macedonia Square, the Old Bazaar’s tea houses are at their cosiest, and ski slopes are only an hour away. This guide covers the weather, holidays and the best things to do in Skopje in winter.

Skopje winter weather

December Cold and often grey; first snow possible
January The coldest month – daytime around 3–5°C, nights below freezing
February Still cold, with the first mild days towards the end of the month

Snow falls most winters but rarely stays long in the city. Pack a warm coat, gloves and waterproof shoes. One honest tip: on still, cold days Skopje can have poor air quality – check an air-quality app and plan indoor activities on bad days.
