Morning: Start in the Heart of Skopje

Begin your one day in Skopje adventure at Macedonia Square, the main hub of the city. Here you’ll see the famous Warrior on a Horse statue, one of the most iconic landmarks.

Walk across the historic Stone Bridge, which connects the modern part of the city with the old.

Continue your morning in the Old Bazaar, one of the oldest marketplaces in the Balkans. Wander through narrow streets, explore traditional shops, and enjoy the authentic atmosphere – our Old Bazaar walking route shows the best stops.

Midday: Culture and History

Visit the Mustafa Pasha Mosque, a peaceful and beautiful example of Ottoman architecture.

After that, head uphill to Skopje Fortress (Kale) for panoramic views of the city. This is a great spot for photos and a quick break.

For lunch, try traditional Macedonian food in the Old Bazaar. Popular dishes include:

  • Tavče gravče
  • Kebapi
  • Shopska salad

Afternoon: Museums and Modern Skopje

Spend your afternoon exploring some of Skopje’s cultural highlights. A great choice is the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle, which gives insight into the country’s history.

Walk along the Vardar River, where you’ll notice the mix of classical-style buildings and modern projects.

Make your way to the Mother Teresa Memorial House, dedicated to the Nobel Peace Prize winner born in Skopje.

Evening: Sunset and Nightlife

End your one day in Skopje by heading to Vodno Mountain. Take the cable car to the Millennium Cross and enjoy a breathtaking sunset view over the city.

Update (October 2026): the Vodno cable car is closed for repairs and expected to reopen by the end of November 2026. Until then you can hike up from Sredno Vodno in about 1–1.5 hours.

Return to the city center for dinner. Choose a restaurant with a terrace or river view for a relaxed atmosphere.

If you still have energy, explore Skopje’s nightlife – from cozy bars to lively clubs.
