The Church of St. Constantine and Helena stands in the very centre of Skopje, just steps from Macedonia Street and the Mother Teresa Memorial House (see it on the map). It is one of the city’s newest religious landmarks, yet it already feels like part of the old city fabric.

Who were Saints Constantine and Helena?
The church is dedicated to Saint Constantine the Great and his mother Saint Helena, two of the most important figures in early Christianity. Constantine was the Roman emperor who legalised Christianity, while Helena is remembered for finding the True Cross in Jerusalem. Together they symbolise the meeting of faith, state and culture.
Architecture
The church was built in a traditional Byzantine style using modern construction techniques. Its stone façade, monumental domes and carefully proportioned structure follow classic Orthodox design while fitting neatly into the city centre.
The most striking feature is the golden central dome, which stands out on the skyline of the centre. Symmetrical walls, arched windows and fine exterior details give the building a calm, balanced look.

Inside the church
The interior is spacious and peaceful. It is gradually being decorated with traditional Orthodox frescoes and icons painted according to centuries-old rules. The iconostasis, altar and soft lighting create a calm atmosphere that is worth seeing even if you are not religious.
