Skopje Zoo

Macedonia has 280 sunny days a year, so the locals naturally like to spend their free time outdoors. The city of Skopje abounds with many interesting sights and activities. In addition to the lively nightlife and the breathtaking historical monuments, Skopje is surrounded by beautiful nature that is worth seeing. Whether a hike or a walk through the city park, it’s always a good idea to get some fresh air in the green areas of Skopje – which brings us to the city zoo.

The zoo in Skopje is just one of the green oases where nature is fully manifested. Located in the Skopje City Park, which is only a 15-minute walk from the main square, this is one of the oldest zoos on the Balkan Peninsula. The zoo in Skopje was founded in 1926 and has been expanding and improving ever since. It was recently renovated and at the moment, are 495 animals (from 96 species of animals) living on an area of 120,000 square meters.

Skopje Zoo is a family friendly place – the locals bring their children here for a fun family day out filled with activities and educational tours. With that in mind, the zoo is mostly visited on weekends, so if you want to avoid the crowds, it’s best to visit Monday through Friday.
It takes approximately 3 hours to complete the walk and see all the animals.

Tickets:
Considering the number of animals and the huge space this zoo occupies, the ticket price is incredibly low. Single ticket – 80 MKD (~1.30 EUR), Group ticket – 50 MKD (~0.80 EUR), Dino Park – 50 MKD (~0.80 EUR), Group ticket for preschool age – 40 MKD (~0.65 EUR), Ticket for Baby ZOO – 20 denars (~0.30 eur.). Entry for children under 3 is free.

Tickets for the Skopje Zoo are sold at the counter, which is located right at the entrance.

Working hours:
The zoo in Skopje is open to visitors 365 days a year.
November to February from 09:00 – 16:00
March to October from 09:00 – 17:00
April to September from 09:00 – 18:00
May to August from 09:00 – 19:00

Animals in the Skopje Zoo
The animals in the Skopje Zoo are certainly a spectacular sight: there are mammals, birds, fish, reptiles and insects from all over the world. The habitat for each animal, after a series of renovation activities, is incredibly close to what their natural habitat looks like.
