Skopje Zoo is one of the oldest zoos in the Balkans and an easy, cheap half-day out – especially if you are travelling with kids. It sits inside City Park, about a 15-minute walk from Macedonia Square.

About the zoo
The zoo was founded in 1926 and has been expanded and renovated many times since. Today it covers about 12 hectares and is home to around 500 animals from close to 100 species. After the recent renovations, many enclosures were rebuilt to be closer to the animals’ natural habitats.
Animals to see
Expect mammals, birds, reptiles, fish and insects from around the world. Younger children love the Baby ZOO petting area and the Dino Park with life-size dinosaur models.

How long to spend
Allow about 2–3 hours to walk the whole zoo at a relaxed pace. It is busiest at weekends, when local families come for the day – visit on a weekday morning for a quieter experience.
